Nancy Engebretson Memorial Photojournalism Scholarship

The Nancy Engebretson Memorial Photojournalism Award was established in memory of veteran newspaper photographer and Phoenix native Nancy Engebretson to support a university undergraduate student who demonstrates exceptional talent with visual story-telling or photojournalism and a desire to pursue a career in journalism.

*U.S. citizen
*Incoming freshman, current undergraduate, and graduate students attending attending Arizona State University’s Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication OR the University of Arizona’s School of Journalism.
*Student must have a passion and ability for photojournalism with a commitment to pursue visual communication as a career within the expanding platforms of web or print journalism.

Award Details:
The Nancy Engebretson Memorial Photojournalism Award is a one-time award of $1,000. Scholarship can be renewed, students must re-apply.

Supplemental Questions
  1. Why do you want to be a photojournalist? Describe a special project that you have documented as a visual journalist or a project you want to explore.
  2. Upload a digital photo portfolio of 10 images here, or as a linked reference to a personal website that includes still photo images, video or a combination of both from at least three of these categories: news, feature art, portraits, sports, multi-picture story-telling and community issue reporting. The images must contain complete caption information and be original work in its entirety. Photos should be uploaded as JPGS sized 72 dpi by 1200 pixels on the longest side. Videos should be 3 - 5 minutes in length.
